Window on our digital world

Stories today that have no relation except they demonstrate fate's fickle hand when it comes to computing.
First, from the UK an unbelievable story: Britain apologizes for 'inexcusable' data loss. Half of their population's tax and personal records - 25 million people - are lost. Ooops.
Now King Juan Carlos of Spain saying 'shut up' to Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez is a phone ringtone hit. So far, it's estimated that the ringtone has brought some 1.5 million euros ($2.16 million) to companies selling it.
Neither of these stories trump the tragic death of Robert Dziekanski for me. Because of the digital record of his death at the hands of RCMP officers, the world can judge how Canada greeted a newcomer.
In all of these stories (and countless others) machines appear to be having their revenge on mankind. It's becoming less clear to me which of us is master or servant.
