Interesting topic. Here are a few points.

• RSS and Commenting make it cool.
• Bandwidth issues being resolved by outside resources such as new "ourmedia.org" (Mark Canter)
• Community access programming married with videoblogging can be cost effective and informative
• Using Bitorrent protocol makes file transfers faster, more practical
• "Digital Bicycle"
• lack of video codec standard remains a big problem
