North Shore Search & Rescue: Local Heroes

Posted by Michael Klassen on January 19, 2007 in Vancouver

I got a call out of the blue a few years ago from a North Shore Search & Rescue fundraising phone bank. It's not your usual charity, but I didn't miss a beat, I donated and have done every year since. These guys are real local heroes, and deserve our support.

Thankfully they now have a decent website (no RSS though!) and an online donation page. The news has been full of stories of North Shore rescues, and in extremely trecherous conditions.

If you're looking to support a worthwhile (tax deductible) cause, support the men and women of the North Shore SAR team.

Just a note that for any group like this, the web-donation option is usually much better than giving over the phone.
The telemarketing costs from phone rooms usually suck up a large percentage of money donated.

By donating online, or mailing a cheque, your money goes much farther.
