Narvey: our little slice of shopping heaven

Courtesy of Jonathon Narvey and Metroblogging, a zesty look at one of the most puzzling commercial developments in our city: Tinseltown.

Despite the debate of a few commenters about how bad the 'hood is, the whole development is clearly a failure of planning. The "If you build it, they will come" notion just doesn't apply when shoppers feel like they'll get rolled just for showing up.

Yes, I know you can probably come back and forth from the International Village in one piece, but that's not the point. Amenities like a shopping mall should be built in response to the needs of the community. In the case of Tinseltown, we've built a 4-story shopping facility where shoppers simply don't want to go.

That is, unless you desperately need some jib.
